The British Government refused to detain an Israeli General wanted for alleged war crimes and for which an international arrest warrant has been issued. Although ordered to by a judge the British Police refused to board a plane at heathrow to arrest the General. It was thought that the Israeli embassy had been notified by Jack Straws department as to the risks to the General if he disembarked the plane. As such he refused to do so and British police refused to board it for fear they might be armed guards on the plane. Then after all of this, Jack Straw contacted the Israeli foreign minister at apologised for the embarrassment caused.

Truly staggering is the aspect of ineptitude shown by the British Police as well as the governments blatant pandering to Israel. The fact is that the General is accused of war crimes and has an arrest warrant out on him. If this is the way the government is going to respond to these kinds of things then they should be held to account. I wonder would it be possible to prosecute Jack Straw and the Police commanders for failing to implement an international arrest warrant?
