Firstly it is no surprise to see that the papers and the media have been mourning the release of these five people claiming that the anti-terrorism laws are now in tatters and everyone and their dog will now be able to get away with deadly terrorist activities without fear of reprisals.
I am personally very happy that they have been released for the simple fact that being arrested not for something that you have done, but something they accuse you of thinking to do is completely ridiculous. It is staggering that this effect of the law has completely slipped out of the area of discussion.
These people were jailed as terrorists for about 7 months before being release for things they were accused of thinking of. It would seem that the anti-Islamic, anti-Muslim feeling in this country has gotten so big that people don’t seem to care about the consequences of these laws against themselves.
The government still has the opportunity to appeal but it looks like to me they will not get rid of the laws simply they will use this as an excuse to make them even more restrictive and sneak more legislation into the works on this and associated issues.
