Martin Luther King, jr.

I work and live in the UK but our company has US offices also and i noticed it was Martin Luther King Jr day there today. Suddenly i wondered to my self, if somebody as innovative and provocative as that was speaking out today what would happen to that person. Well certainly in the UK he would be arrest under the various new laws that have been introduced to curb acts of incitement. Indeed within the the definitions of UK law he could even be arrested under the anti-terrorism laws.

An example of how these laws have been applied was the use of anti-terrorism laws against the people protesting against the new runway being built at London’s Heathrow Terminal 5. Politicians did not want the demonstrations, so the Police went down there with powers to detain people under the anti-terrorism act for i believe something like 28 days. Amazing to see democracy in progress and how efficient it can be when the government wants it to be.

I guess i was wondering are their similar laws in the United States and what might happened to him, if he appeared in modern day United States of America.

  1. Interesting musings.
He would be in an orange outfit, looking through bars in a sunny clime.
